Highly Specialized Major (MHS)
What is the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)?

The MHS is a specialized program that allows students in grades 11 and 12 to focus their learning on a specific economic sector, while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Students develop sector-specific skills and knowledge, earn recognized certifications and participate in hands-on experiences.

MHS Program Requirements
Choose a sector of the MHS:
Select the sector that matches your interests and career goals (e.g., health and wellness, business, information technology, etc.).
Plan the required credits:
Register for the 4 specialization credits in your sector.
Plan for 2 credits in cooperative education to gain practical experience.
Select 2 to 4 support credits relevant to your sector.
Obtain the necessary certifications:
Complete required training, such as first aid, CPR, and other industry-specific certifications.
Participate in experiential learning activities:
Participate in company visits, job shadowing and meetings with professionals to explore possible careers.
Engage in anticipatory experiences:
Take campus tours, application workshops, or take post-secondary courses to prepare for the future.
Collaborate with industry partners:
Participate in ICE workshops, coding sessions or financial literacy activities in partnership with industry experts.
